    Continental Motors, Inc. is seeking a Research and Development Engineer for product development and engine system design efforts for future general aviation reciprocating piston engine systems at its Mobile, Alabama facility.

    Essential duties and responsibilities

    - Planning and execution of engineering tests and development projects.
    - Coordination of activities related to technical development, scheduling, and resolution of engineering design and test issues.
    - Prepare project deliverables, design documents, test plans, test reports, and product configuration packages.
    - Analyze test results and provide recommendations for design and test improvements, and document findings in written engineering reports.
    - Review and evaluate product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements, quality standards, industry specifications, and regulations.
    - Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
    - Coordinate design, production, testing and related activities.
    - Provide status updates and reports to project team and management.
    - Other duties as assigned.

    Desired characteristics

    - 3 years experience in the application of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, vibration or stress and strain analysis for engines or similar complex systems.
    - Applied knowledge of internal spark ignited or compression ignition engine systems.
    - Demonstrated experience with sensors, instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis for development purposes.
    - Experienced in experimental & analytical methods to solve complex problems.
    - Fundamental knowledge of manufacturing processes of mechanical or electrical components.
    - Prior experience in aircraft applications and FAA Certification is desired.

    Education and experience required

    Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other related Engineering discipline with at least 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent education.
    Pilot certificate and,or FAA DMIR, DER, DAR, or A&P certificate are a plus.

    Language skills

    The candidate should be a motivated self-starter with good written and oral communications skills and excel in a multidisciplinary team environment.

    Computer skills

    - Microsoft Office Suite
    - Mathworks MATLAB SimuLink, preferred
    - PTC Creo, preferred
    - Finite Element Analysis Software, NASTRAN preferred
    - National Instruments LabVIEW, preferred
    - AVL Indicom, Concerto is desired
    - GT Suite is desired

    Physical requirements

    - Work location is indoors, outdoors and on elevated areas.
    - Must be able to work in a hangar environment.
    - Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
    - Must be able to walk distances of over 1 mile during the day.
    - Must be able to work in safety sensitive areas.
    - Must be able to frequently bend, reach, squat, kneel, climb, sit and stand when working with aircraft for the entire work day.
    - Must be able to work with and around cleaners, degreasers, plating chemicals, ammonia, solvents, aviation fuels and other natural or synthetic greases and oils.
